The myth of the Western has many elemental themes that resonate so deeply within our psyches that they can be transported to any setting and still be recognizable.  Nomads is a concept in the tradition of the Weird West, where elements of the classic Western are combined with ingredients from other genres to create a rich soup that is still recognizable as a Western but has a unique flair and feel to it.  The following are different takes on the classic Western motifs of the lone gunman, the posse and marauding bandits.  These are the nascent steps of what we hope to be a long and fruitful multi-media project.  Enjoy!
  • INSPIRATION
  • We started with some research to get a feel for the artifacts of the era.
  • CULTURAL ARTIFACT+CHARACTER DESIGN
  • This is an early concept piece to capture the look and feel of the project, it is a facsimile of a magazine cover from this imaginary world.  The idea was to design it with the look and feel of a Western magazine, but with strategic elements swapped out for a different look and feel.  The addition of slightly unfamiliar cultural and monetary symbols creates an interesting blend of the familiar and the fantastic.  On a side note, the date of the magazine publication was the date of Wyatt Earp's death, perhaps in this world The Earp can be a messianic force for good?
  • Original line drawing
  • In addition to the magazine cover, a character design package was created to give further depth to the character in terms of his personal history as well real world textural reference for the 3D pipeline.
  • NARRATIVE IMAGERY
  • A bounty hunter releases his Hounds in search of the their quarry
