Inspired by the rich cultural heritage of jazz, Marcus Collins creates a new vision that captures the soul of this original American artform.  Jazz Shakedown is a hyper-stylized world with larger than life personalities, brimming with soul and emotion.  The world is a combination of handcrafted caricatured characters existing in a hyper-real space that draws inspiration from 1920's New York and Chicago, but has a look and feel all its own.  The following is a sampling of this world, we hope you enjoy it!
  • INSPIRATION
  • When dealing with a subject as rich in tradition as jazz, it all starts with research and inspiration.
  • KEYFRAME ART
  • The City
  • The Club
  • Feeling it tonight!
  • Life Ain't Easy
  • ENVIRONMENT DESIGN
  • Preliminary environment concept
The idea was to have the different elements of the street scene come alive with the music.
The light pole, the headlights of the car and the railing of the apartments all look like they're dancing.
  • VEHICLE DESIGN
  • Preliminary vehicle concepts
The idea here was to create interesting proportions, shapes and volumes for the vehicles, but still have it be recognizable as a car from 1920's New York.
  • CHARACTER DESIGN
  • Lump and Charlie are all about contrasting personalities and silhouettes
  • Charlie, the piano player
  • Lump, the bassist
