Guardians of the Ancients is a 2D animated short film adaptation of Legends of Runeterra, a collectible card game set in the League of Legends universe. The film features beloved Champions and introduces Ionia, an Asian-themed locale, to promote a game expansion.

The challenge was bringing the time-manipulating wizard Zilean to life while incorporating multiple Champions. We made Zilean relatable, drawing inspiration from Merlin in The Sword in the Stone, as he observes timelines of Ionian warriors defending against invasion.

We blended the visual styles of Hero and The Last Samurai with Dr. Strange’s time-bending elements, resulting in a lush, captivating film animated by Sun Creature.

The film boosted expansion sales, delivered an immersive storytelling experience, and received positive feedback from the League of Legends community.
